Was born in Jódar in 1969. He received the M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in
computer sciences from the University of Granada, Granada, Spain, in 1993 and 1996, respectively. He is currently a Professor of computer science with the Department of Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence, University of Granada. A tenth of his papers are classed as highly cited as well as being in the top 1% of the most cited papers in its field. His current research interests include group decision making, consensus models, linguistic
modeling, aggregation of information, information retrieval, bibliometric, digital libraries, web quality evaluation, and recommender systems.
Dr. Herrera-Viedma is an Associate Editor of various ISI journals such as IEEE Transactions on Systems Man and Cybernetics: Systems, Knowledge Based Systems, Soft Computing, Journal of Intelligent and Fuzzy Systems, Fuzzy Optimization and Decision Making, and Information Sciences; and a member of
the editorial boards of various ISI journals as Fuzzy Sets and Systems, International Journal of Information Technology and Decision Making, and International Journal of Computational Intelligence. His h-index is 39 and he is considered one of the Most Cited Scientists in Engineering in the ISI Web of Science Essential.
Science Indicators, i.e., he is in the top 1% of the most cited scientists in the field of engineering and computer science. He has recently published in Science [339:6126 (2013) p. 1382] on the new role of the public libraries.
